Director of Social Services (Full-Time)

Job Description

Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the social service programs of this facility. Demonstrates authority, accountability, initiative and responsibility of the department.

Assist in the development, administering, and coordinating of department policies and procedures. Identify medically related social and emotional needs of the resident.

Keep abreast of current federal and state regulations, as well as professional standards, and make recommendations on changes in policies and procedures according to new/updated regulations. Provides in-service/training in revisions of policies as needed.

Review department policies and procedures independently and at Quality Assurance meetings at least annually. Apply necessary recommendations and/or changes.

Develop and implement policies and procedures for the identification of medically related social and emotional needs of the resident.

Utilize and apply the appropriate budget within the social services department. Communicate budget needs and requests to the Administrator.

Oversee and approve the appropriate budget for the activities department. Review budget needs and requests with the Activities Director and to the Administrator as needed.

Maintain knowledge of chart of accounts and submit invoices in a timely manner with correct coding for the accounts payable department.

Manage and oversee ancillary services for all residents. Ensure compliance and record keeping. Manage complaints, concerns, and resident appointments as needed.

Assist, approve, and/or authorize family requests for letters and other miscellaneous requests that may arise.

Accept and complete other assignments as directed by the Administrator.

Assist in standardizing the methods in which work will be accomplished. Develop or revise forms as needed for efficiency and appropriate documentation.

Work with the facility’s consultants as necessary and implement recommended changes as required

Develop and maintain a community and social services referral file of agencies and organizations that provide assistance to residents. Refer residents and family members as needed to such agencies. Document referrals in social service notes.

Prioritize tasks and job duties according to safety, regulations, compliance, needs, and deadlines.


Must possess, as a minimum, a Bachelor’s Degree in social work, human services, or other related field.


Must have, as a minimum, two (2) years’ experience in a supervisory capacity in a hospital, nursing care facility, other related medical facility, or facility working with counseling services, therapy services, conflict resolution, and/or social work.

Pay: $28.00 – $30.00 per hour
